huzzah! [13 May 2007|01:16am]

well, i'm new, and many thanks for the approval!

and now, my answers (you're all excited, aren't you? it's not just me, right?)

1. How long have you been interested in faerie?
i'm really not sure... years, and perhaps years before then, but i didn't really know it.

2. Were you faerie-fied as a child?
no! faeries are for girls!! actually, i was as a little girl, and then i got all tomboyish and omg faeries were GROSS!
that was until i encountered proper faerie things - dirty, brown, naughty faeries who lived in the woods, not the prissy ones in the flowers. i was very much an outdoorsy child, and really clicked with that representation of fae...in fact, i'd often had people describe me as "fae" as a child. i took it as an insult until i found the right faeries.

3. Who's your favourite faery artist?
yeah, i'm going to be predictable and say froud. but really, he hugely inspired me when i was younger, and i still love his stuff.

4. favourite faerie film?
i'm not really sure it's a "faerie film" per se...it's a goblin film. or a "what the hell has he got down the front of his pants?" film. but labyrinth.

5. Which element (Air, Water, Fire, Earth, Spirit) are you?
i think i'm primarily earth, though i think i could be a bit of all of them. less so air, though. but certainly water, fire, earth and spirit.

5. What do you make?
i used to craft A LOT, but then painting really took over, and now i seem to paint a lot more than i craft. i'm changing that. i made myself a fae skirt some time back, and people had such a positive reaction to it that i'm making myself a crafty fae website to sell things from. ( http://www.woodurchin.com )
i intend to get back to my crafty roots, 'cause plain old art sometimes just doesn't satify that need for turning up some treasure, you know?

6. Are there any other favouite faerie things you think we should all know about?
you really must, must, must check out these swings
and the most beautiful bed in the world!

anyway, that's all from me. hopefully i'll have items worth posting in the near future. 8-)

Here's a few random things:

I was given some headresses/tiaras by a woman not long ago who used to do fairy parties for kids, but they were kind of a bit munty (not in a good way) and too bright for what I want my fearie house to represent, so I did a bunch of stuff to them...

tiaras and that much-talked about Barbossa necklace.Collapse )

Tia Dalma [20 Mar 2007|03:17pm]

[ mood | artistic ]

I've always been a prop replicator. Since I was a little girl and I made a computer book so my brother and I could play Inspector Gadget, then i made a Johnny five out of lego, I hunted down a waistcoat exact to Sarah's from the Labyrinth when I wasin year 11, and I used to dress like Punky Brewster back when she played in prime time.

These days, most of my favourite movies are fantasy, or at least have wonderful props and costumes. I have a Harry Potter costume complete with wand and prefect badge, but i don't have anything really spectacular. So...

The beginnings of the Tia Dalma project!

I always know deh wind gonna blow yeh back teh me one day..Collapse )

The Green Pan [16 Mar 2007|04:34pm]

[ mood | accomplished ]

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The Green Pan headress, vintage flowers, tissue paper, PVA wire, newsprint, suede ribbon, brass bells and felt.

As soon as I spotted the spiralling shells in the shops a few weeks back, I knew that I'd turn them into horns. I didn't expect it to turn out so nice though!

Hello there, I am a first timer. Be gentle. *whimper* [08 Mar 2007|11:35pm]

I thought to my-self, I am a member here but I have never posted. How rude!
So here I go with my initiation test

1. How long have you been interested in faerie? Since I was about 4.

2. Were you faerie-fied as a child? Um...I guess so.

3. Who's your favorite faery artist? It was Brian Froud but I am taking a break from his work and watching Michele-Lee Phelan create new, fun and pretty paintings. Plus she has a 'voice' that she uses regually so it is easier to ask her questions.

4. favourite faerie film? Okay I am sticking to faeries and not going the way of the goblin so i would have to say 'The Magical Legend of The Leprachauns'. A movie adaption of 'Romeo & Juliette' with leprechauns and faeries. It's very cute and has some hotties in it. ^__^

5. Which element (Air, Water, Fire, Earth, Spirit) are you? I am Air.

5. What do you make? Jewelery, clothing, I now have enough room to add dolls and (if I can find a sale on certain objects) hats. Photography is up near the top of the list as something I love to do and painting and drawing follow close behind.

6. Are there any other favourite faerie things you think we should all know about? I think one of the cats, Phillip, eats them if they tease her.

I've not updated here for aaaages, I don't know why...

The script has been re-written slighty, I am now doing a faery room and storytelling forest in Coal Creek, the local open-air museum. (it's like a one-horse town, but preserved exaclty as they were in the 1850s). I'm also becoming their caretaker soon, which will be great, because I get to live on site, which means I can devote more time to other projects I have in mind, like restoration of the greenhouse and setting up some kind of artist in residence program.

Anyway, here are some shots of a faery crown I made recently.

several pictures, rather large (I had hoped Photobucket would shrink them, but alas...Collapse )

:edited post:

The shop itself is coming together quite well, hopefully I'll go to work tomorrow a find that we have a wardrobe, which would be great! Having the shop upstairs means that when I'm not there, some stock is vulnerable to itchy fingers, so we devised having a wardrobe, so that at the end of every shop night I can just lock away the smaller stuff. Gernius. When the weather wamrs up I'll start tarot and Faerie Oracle readings. Pictures of the actual space hopefully next week.

Pics- onward!

fae craft- not so dial-uppage love...Collapse )

How exciting!

Staight into it: here are some things I made this past week.

wizard wands, before and afterCollapse )

ice queen's crownCollapse )

pan hornsCollapse )

I'm going to start doing some prop replication I think- just to get a feel for design work. I'll make a list of all the stuff I'll do and post it. Fantasy posters are so inpiring- I bought a magazine devoted to sci-fi digital artists- brilliant stuff! and it came with a free trial of Corel IX!
